
Dr. Zainab Mukhtar is a Manager of Medical & Scientific Affairs at Abbott Diagnostics. In this role, she is responsible for a number of scientific activities, including hematology research and education. She received her medical degree from Bristol University in the UK, where she specialized in clinical hematology, transfusion and transplantation sciences. She has over 17 years of post-graduate experience, which included treating and managing hematology and transfusion dependent patients. Her thesis work was in the laboratory of histocompatibility and immunogenetics at NHSBT Filton, UK under the supervision of Dr. John Harvey related to STR markers in transplants of acute pediatric leukemia’s. She also additionally acquired Assessor’s Certification from Paul Ehrlich Institute, Germany.
She has been actively presenting her research work in various hematological and blood transfusion societies. She is an active member of ISBT and was the recipient of various scholarship awards, including Harold Gunson Fellowship-ISBT, World Hemophilia Society Fellowship and CSSS British Scholarship. She studied Health Care Business Management and previously worked in the commercial organization supporting the Middle East, Sri Lanka and Pakistan before moving to her current role.
Her interests, include recent advancements in hematological diagnostics, quality management in hematology and blood transfusion, hemoglobinopathies, transfusion dependent anemias, hemovigilance, transfusion transmitted infectious diseases and Pediatric Leukemia. Zainab is also a dedicated volunteer and member of various women professional societies and is committed to the advancements of women in science and leadership.
