Routine Coagulation Assays

Overview

Review the processes undertaken in a coagulation laboratory to complete screening tests as well as the measurements that are necessary to produce results needed to make an accurate diagnosis.

Objectives
  • Name routine assays used in coagulation screening.
  • Associate assays with pathways of the coagulation cascade.
  • Discuss reagents used to perform coagulation assays.
  • Define the INR and its use.
  • Correlate abnormal findings in coagulation screening tests to specific factor deficiencies.
  • Identify and associate pre- and post analytical variables in coagulation testing.
