Combined abnormalities of number and function

Overview

Some hereditary disorders of platelet production show low platelet counts and platelets of abnormal size.1

Many of these conditions are associated with other medical problems such as:1

  • May-Hegglin Anomaly
  • Alport Syndrome
  • Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome

In some of these conditions, platelet function may also be abnormal. Nevertheless, bleeding problems, in most cases, appear to be related to low platelet numbers, and not the functional abnormalities.1

Symptoms

Symptoms depend on the condition associated with the disorder. Excessive bleeding may occur.2,3,4

Causes

The causes depend on the condition (inherited, genetic disorder etc)2,3,4
